SH-60H Seahawk
An SH-60H “Sea Hawk” assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Four (HS-4) lifts off from the ship’s flight deck as an F/A-18C “Hornet” assigned to the “Fist of the Fleet” Strike Fighter Squadron Two Five (VFA-25) sits ready on the portside number four catapult. This particular Hornet is outfitted with a number of strike weapons including the Standoff Land Attack Missile - Expanded Response (SLAM-ER), an evolutionary upgrade to the combat-proven SLAM day/night, adverse weather over-the-horizon, precision strike missile, located on the aircraft’s starboard center pylon. HS-4 provides plane guard and conducts combat search and rescue support. Abraham Lincoln and her embarked Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (CVW-14) are conducting combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch.
